Roots and Resilience
Residential Internship Application

The Roots and Resilience 12 month Internship Program provides the following essential support services to homeless women Veterans and their children:

Self Empowerment Education: Vocational and entrepreneurial training, personal financial independence education, transitional employment support, Career development, education advancement, and benefits navigation

Residential Services: Providing safe, stable housing to veterans during their 12 month internship

Community Garden & Teaching Kitchen: Food as medicine approach to healing and community building

Therapeutic Services: Evidence-based ecotherapy, family therapy, and peer support designed specifically for military trauma

Child-Focused Services: Homeschooling support and supplies, and Specialized programming to address the unique needs of children experiencing secondary trauma

Practical Support Services: On-site case management to access social services to obtain food, clothing, and transportation

Wellness Services: Holistic health approaches including nutrition, movement, and complementary therapies

Community Integration & Aftercare: Building lasting support networks and providing ongoing connection
The Roots and Resilience Program focuses on integrating military women into their local communities and choosing safe and suitable residential areas when they graduate from the program.
Our Roots and Resilience Program collaborates with our resource partners that include targeted supportive services to help military women reach their goals.
We also assist with permanent housing placement once participants are ready to graduate from our internship program.
Roots and Resilience Eligibility

Must be female with a child(ren) less than 5 years old.

Must have an "honorable or under honorable conditions" discharge; verified by DD-214*. (*Requires completion of initial service obligation (ISO), unless medically discharged) Or Must have documentation showing marriage to military personnel

Must be willing to adhere to terms of the Internship 12-month Plan for Independence.
*Note 1: It Takes a Village Ministry, Inc. will review discharges beyond honorable conditions on a case-by-case basis.
*Note 2: Financial education classes are mandatory as part of the Roots and Resilience Program.
